First Women’s Wellness Centre Opens in Chai Wan June 12

Hong Kong is taking a significant step towards women’s preventive healthcare with the launch of the Women Wellness Satellite (WWS) initiative. This innovative program aims to provide comprehensive, accessible primary healthcare services specifically designed for women, marking a crucial advancement in community health support.

The first WWS location will open its doors on June 12 in the Chai Wan district, situated at the Chai Wan Health Centre on 1 Hong Man Street. This state-of-the-art 380 square meter facility is thoughtfully designed to offer a comfortable and comprehensive healthcare experience. Equipped with consultation rooms, dedicated health assessment areas, and a health education space, the center represents a holistic approach to women’s wellness.

Accessibility is a key feature of the WWS, with the Chai Wan center operating six days a week. Most days will offer at least eight hours of service, with extended hours until 8 PM twice weekly, ensuring that women can access healthcare services that fit their diverse schedules.

The range of services provided is comprehensive and prevention-focused. Women can expect health assessments, cancer screenings, nurse clinics, and doctor referrals when additional medical attention is required. This approach emphasizes early detection and proactive health management, potentially reducing long-term healthcare complications.

Eligibility for these services is straightforward. Women aged 64 or below can access the WWS by registering with a District Health Centre or District Health Centre Express. The program includes a government subsidy, with users responsible for a modest co-payment, making preventive healthcare more affordable and accessible.

The initiative isn’t limited to Chai Wan. Two additional WWS locations are planned for September, strategically located in Lam Tin (Kowloon) and Tuen Mun (New Territories). To bridge the gap until these centers open, transitional service points will be available in Yau Ma Tei and North Point, ensuring broader geographical coverage.

The early response to the WWS has been promising. As of June 1, over 680 women have already undergone preliminary assessments, and more than 600 have booked services. This enthusiastic uptake suggests a strong community need and appreciation for dedicated women’s healthcare services.

Recognizing the importance of inclusive healthcare, the program also ensures that women receiving social assistance or holding medical fee waivers can access preventive care services at seven designated public clinics.
