HSBC GlobalHome Insurance

HSBC’s new ‘GlobalHome Insurance’ has stepped into the void created when Chubb withdrew its “Masterpiece” and ‘HomePeace’ policies from sale in the Hong Kong market in April 2010.

The policy provides cover for :

• Building
• Contents, including collectibles, antiques, Fine Art, wine, Valuables, including jewelry and other especially listed items
• Personal Liability, worldwide.

Building

Subject to specified exclusions, covers physical loss or Damage, including fire, water or accidental damage to walls, windows, ceilings and floors of your home, including interior fittings, decorations, fixtures and lifts, fuel tanks, satellite dishes and swimming pools

Additional Special Coverages include up to HK$7500 for a plant stolen or vandalized and as well as up to HKD150,000 for the costs of tracing a Water Leak! And if you lose your keys, even the cost of changing your house locks is covered!

Contents, Fine Arts and Valuables

Your home contents are insured as well as valuables and Fine Art while being moved to your new home in Hong Kong or overseas

If you buy new items, these are covered up to 25% of your current sum insured.. so if your contents are worth HKD1m, you can buy up to HKD250,000 of additional items and providing you advise us within 60 days of purchase (and pay the additional premium) these items will be covered

In the case of Fine art, the appreciation in value following in the 6 months after an artist’s death is automatically covered to a maximum of HKD1.5m and if you buy an item that is proven to have a defective title.. i.e. the seller had not entitlement to sell.. then you are covered up to the lesser of HKD250,000 or 10% of your fine art insured.

When it comes to loss of money, HSBC’s cover is likely the highest you will find anywhere in the HK market. You are covered for up to HKD75,000 for loss of cash, travel tickets, bank drafts, current postage stamps etc. IF a credit card is lost or stolen and subsequently made use of by others, you are protected up to HKD500,000 in unauthorized purchases.

If you lose or damage the twin of a pair or an item out of a set of items, if these items have an added value as part of the set.. any claim payment will take into account this increased value.

In line with HSBC’s determination to make its GlobalHome policy contemporary to our society and times, you are also covered for

• Personal documents and computer data, where there is covered damage to computer hardware – provides cover up to the sum insured for replacing lost documents or retrieving data of a personal nature. Cover is also provided for the costs of replacing or reconstituting digital music, video or photographs
• Identity fraud: You are covered up to HKD150,00 for the costs of defending a claim against you by financial institutions, removing incorrect judgments etc.

Liability

You are covered up to HKD20m (or more if you apply) should you be held legally liable for an accident causing injury or damage to property, whether this accident occurs in or about your home or in fact anywhere in the world.

You are even covered for your legal liability to your domestic employees, whether in HK or temporarily abroad for the government mandated HKD100,000,000.
